2002, and is on air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1386 AM on the campus; and all over the world on the internet via www.Blast1386.com.
Due to the demand for programming, the beginning of 2004 saw the launch of Night Time Blast which gives the listener a chance to hear some new shows, some reruns and also the very best in music from all the decades.
Blast 1386 believes in the importance of providing a practical means of developing all aspects of the student Media curriculum by being the radio station for the campus. Blast 1386 is one of the few live stations which allows students to gain experience running and working in a full-time radio environment as well as enabling them to showcase their talents while presenting student issues and interest to a substantial listening audience.
Blast 1386 was billed as "Not your usual Student Station!" in 2005 and now this is more true than ever. The combination of advanced studio equipment, full-time professional station management and 24/7 broadcasting puts the station in a unique position - it is the most well-resourced student station in the UK, in terms of involvement and equipment.
Research shows that existing commercial radio stations are not able to provide focused local news, music and speech for students of all ages, together with review information, previews and gig guides; all of which are in great demand in the vibrant Reading area.
Our programming contains an exciting and varied blend of contemporary, specialist and ethnic music. We provide news and information which other stations don't have time to provide. You may never know what is coming next!
Blast 1386 broadcasts across the Reading College campus on low power AM/MW and across the world on the internet.. It serves the diverse Reading student population - an otherwise underserved audience- with a speech and music platform that crosses cultural boundaries and backgrounds.
