24 hours a day has a large and diverse listening audience comprised of high school and college students, professional and non-professional adults. Our format includes Gospel, R&B and "Old School," Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop, Reggae, and Jazz. We also produce two daily newscasts during the fall and spring semesters along with a daily sports cast five times a week. We also produce and provide coverage of FAMU convocations, athletic and other important campus events.
WANM began broadcasting on January 23, 1976 as WAMF. Its original programming was Jazz until 1998. The change in format included the adoption of "The Flava Station" as its tag line. The station currently has over 25 student workers who program, operate and manage day to day operations.
The Princeton Review, which ranks the nation's colleges and universities, ranked WANM (FM) 90.5 among the nations best and rated the station second nationally as a Great College Radio Station. WANM has won many awards including the Hearst Award in Broadcast Journalism, Florida Associated Press College Awards, and the Society of Professional Journalism award.
